হিন্দু ব্রাহ্মণ সম্প্রদায়ের একটি শাখা

মারাঠি ব্রাহ্মণ বা মহারাষ্ট্রীয় ব্রাহ্মণ হল ভারতের মহারাষ্ট্র রাজ্যের স্থানীয় ব্রাহ্মণ সম্প্রদায়। তাদের উৎপত্তিস্থলের উপর ভিত্তি করে প্রধানত তিনটি উপ-বিভাগে শ্রেণীবদ্ধ করা হয়েছে, "দেশ", "কারাদ" এবং "কোঙ্কণ"। মহারাষ্ট্র ব্রাহ্মণদের অধীনে আসা ব্রাহ্মণ উপজাতিগুলির মধ্যে রয়েছে দেশস্থচিৎপাবন (কোঙ্কণস্থ), সারস্বতকর্হাদে ও দেবরুখে[১]

ইতিহাস সম্পাদনা

মহারাষ্ট্রীয় ব্রাহ্মণরা ভারতের মহারাষ্ট্র রাজ্যের স্থানীয়। দক্ষিণ ভারতের বিজয়নগর সাম্রাজ্যের পতনের পর এই সম্প্রদায়টি পালাক্রমে বেনারসে চলে আসে।[২] সম্প্রদায়ের সর্বশ্রেষ্ঠ আন্দোলন সংঘটিত হয় যখন মারাঠা সাম্রাজ্য সমগ্র ভারতে বিস্তৃত হয়। এই গোষ্ঠীগুলি নতুন মারাঠা সাম্রাজ্য রাজ্যগুলির অনেক জায়গায় যেমন বড়োদরাইন্দোরগোয়ালিয়রবুন্দেলখণ্ড ও তাঞ্জাবুরের প্রশাসনের মেরুদণ্ড তৈরি করেছিল।[৩]

ব্রাহ্মণরা মহারাষ্ট্রের মোট জনসংখ্যার প্রায় ৮-১০%।[৪] মহারাষ্ট্রীয় ব্রাহ্মণদের মধ্যে, প্রায় ৬০ শতাংশ দেশস্থ ব্রাহ্মণ এবং ২০ শতাংশ চিৎপাবন ব্রাহ্মণ[৫][৬]

মহারাষ্ট্রীয় ব্রাহ্মণরা ঐতিহ্যগতভাবে বেশিরভাগ পুরোহিত ও পণ্ডিত ছিলেন, এবং তাদের প্রশাসক, যোদ্ধা, দরবারী, ব্যবসায়ী ও রাজনীতি সহ বিস্তৃত পেশাগত ভিত্তি রয়েছে।[৭][৮]
