হিন্দু ব্রাহ্মণ সম্প্রদায়ের একটি শাখা

দেশস্থ ব্রাহ্মণ হল প্রধানত ভারতের মহারাষ্ট্রকর্ণাটক রাজ্যের উত্তরাঞ্চলের একটি হিন্দু ব্রাহ্মণ উপজাতি।[৫] লেখক কুমার সুরেশ সিং, গ্রেগরি নায়েক এবং প্রাণ নাথ চোপড়ার মতে, এই রাজ্যগুলি ছাড়া দেশস্থ ব্রাহ্মণরা তেলেঙ্গানা[১][৬] (যা আগে হায়দ্রাবাদ রাজ্য এবং বেরার বিভাগের অংশ ছিল), অন্ধ্রপ্রদেশমধ্যপ্রদেশ (যা আগে কেন্দ্রীয় প্রদেশ ও বেরারের অংশ ছিল) রাজ্যের মধ্যেও কেন্দ্রীভূত।[৭][৮][৯][১০] লেখক প্রাণ নাথ চোপড়া এবং সাংবাদিক প্রীতিশ নন্দী বলেছেন, "মহারাষ্ট্র, কর্ণাটক ও অন্ধ্রপ্রদেশের বেশিরভাগ সাধুই ছিলেন দেশস্থ ব্রাহ্মণ"।[১১][১২] দেশস্থ ব্রাহ্মণদের মাতৃভাষা হয় মারাঠি বা কন্নড়। কিছু দেশস্থ যারা তেলেগু রাজ্যে বসতি স্থাপন করেছিল তারাও তেলুগুকে তাদের মাতৃভাষা হিসেবে গ্রহণ করেছিল।[২]

সহস্রাব্দ ধরে, দেশস্থ সম্প্রদায় গণিতবিদ তৈরি করেছে যেমন দ্বিতীয় ভাস্কর,[১৩] সংস্কৃত পণ্ডিত যেমন  ভবভূতি; ভক্তি সাধু যেমন জ্ঞানেশ্বরশ্রীপাদরাজএকনাথসমর্থ রামদাস এবং বিজয় দাস;[১৪][১৫][১৬] যুক্তিবিদ যেমন জয়তীর্থব্যাসতীর্থ[১৭]

দেশস্থ ব্রাহ্মণদের ঐতিহ্যগত পেশা হল পৌরোহিত্য  ও কুলকার্নিত্ব (গ্রাম হিসাবরক্ষক)।[১৮] তারা লেখক, হিসাবরক্ষক, মহাজনদের মতো ধর্মনিরপেক্ষ পেশাও অনুসরণ করত এবং কৃষিকাজও করত।[১৯][২০][২১] ঐতিহাসিক সময়ে বহুসংখ্যক দেশস্থ অনেক বিশিষ্ট পদে অধিষ্ঠিত ছিলেন যেমন পেশওয়া,[২২] দিওয়ানদেশপান্ডে (জেলা হিসাবরক্ষক), দেশমুখপাতিলগদকারী ও দেশাই[২৩][২৪][২৫][২৬][২৭] লেখক ভোরা ও গ্লুশকোভা বলেছেন যে "দেশস্থ ব্রাহ্মণরা মহারাষ্ট্রের নথিভুক্ত ইতিহাসের প্রায় শুরু থেকেই মহারাষ্ট্রীয় রাজনীতি, সমাজ ও সংস্কৃতিতে মূল স্থান দখল করে আছে। রাজ্যের উচ্চ পদে এবং এমনকি প্রশাসনের বিভিন্ন স্তরে অন্যান্য দফতরে অধিষ্ঠিত, তারা রাষ্ট্রীয় সম্মানের প্রাপক এবং আরও গুরুত্বপূর্ণ, বিভিন্ন ধরনের ভূমি অনুদান।"[২৮]
