মিথিলা অঞ্চলের ইতিহাস

মিথিলা বা তিরহুত বা তিরাভুক্তি হল ভারতীয় উপমহাদেশে অবস্থিত ভৌগোলিক ও সাংস্কৃতিক অঞ্চল। এটি ভারতের বিহারের কিছু অংশ^[১] এবং নেপালের পূর্ব তরাইয়ের পার্শ্ববর্তী জেলা নিয়ে গঠিত।^[২]^[৩] স্থানীয় ভাষাটি মৈথিলী নামে পরিচিত এবং এর ভাষাভাষীদের মৈথিল বলা হয়।^[৪] মিথিলা অঞ্চলের বেশিরভাগ অংশই আধুনিক ভারতের মধ্যে পড়ে, বিশেষ করে বিহার রাজ্যে।^[৫] মিথিলা উত্তরে হিমালয় এবং দক্ষিণে, পশ্চিমে এবং পূর্বে যথাক্রমে গঙ্গা, গণ্ডকী ও মহানন্দা নদী দ্বারা বেষ্টিত।^[৬]^[৭] এটি নেপালের দক্ষিণ-পূর্ব তরাই পর্যন্ত বিস্তৃত।^[৩]^[৮]^[৯] এই অঞ্চলটিকে তিরাভুক্তি নামেও ডাকা হত, তিরহুতের প্রাচীন নাম।^[১০]
