I am so sorry; I am awful in Bengali :-( I meant to say that it seems like the whole city is on water (which it geographically is), on the bay Riddarfjärden.

We should ditch ও্য. It's completely alien to the Bengali reader in many senses. Firstly, in Bangla, য-ফলা, র-ফলা, etc. are *never* used after an independent vowel such as ও. Second, the Bangla reader will probably be at a loss to pronounce the actual Swedish pronunciation that we are trying to covey with ও্য .

You mean "how should we write Ö?". Like I said, I think we need to employ three things:

1. A simplified scheme that will be used in naming the article and throughout the body of the article. Care will be taken in this scheme so that the average bengai reader is not confused.
2. A more thorough transliteration scheme for the linguistic-minded that will try to approximate the actual Swedish with Bengali alphabet.

I support অর্ণব's plan. Each article should have a "real Bengali name" (=something that can be pronounced using only Bengali sounds and using familiar Bengali letters), a "Bengali attempt at the real pronunciation" (=something that might not be pronounceable in Bengali but some attempt can be made in the spelling), and the IPA version for a more accurate representation of the pronunciation. So for the name of the bridge connecting Sweden and Denmark, the name of the bridge and the name of the article about the bridge will be ওরেসুন্দ্‌স্‌ব্রুন। In the first line of the article, it will then say ওরেসুন্দ্‌স্‌ব্রুন (সুয়েডীয় ভাষায় Øresundsbron ও্যরেসুন্দ্‌স্‌ব্রুন আন্তর্জাতিক ধ্বনিমূলক বর্ণমালাতে øɹesundsbɹun) (or whatever the real IPA version is). It may be a bit overwhelming, but it's accurate, and readers who don't care about the native pronunciation or the IPA can just look at the main title and use that. How is the -rg suffix in Swedish written in Bengali - for example Berg = ব্যারি? I would think corresponding to the বাংলা ভাষায় বিদেশী শব্দের প্রতিবর্ণীকরণ article the second instance would be ব্যার্য় - even though this is (probably) not acceptable in Bengali. Examples are Göteborg (ইয়োত্তেবরি, not ইয়োত্তেবর্গ), Björn Borg (বিয়োর্ন বরি, not বিয়োর্ন বর্গ), berg (used in many words and surnames in Swedish, meaning mountain/hill) (ব্যারি, not ব্যার্গ). --Docwho (চিনাৎসু) ১৫:২২, ১০ নভেম্বর ২০০৬ (ইউটিসি)

So for the three versions of how the word Göteborg would be represented, I'd suggest the following:
১ (বাংলা নাম): ইয়তেবরি

৩ (আ-ধ্ব-ব): [jœte'bɔrj]
