I have done a good amount of reading on this subject. If Banglapedia says কেউটে = krait ''Bungarus'' .. they are grossly wrong. Samsad doesnt say that (see here: http://dsal.uchicago.edu/cgi-bin/romadict.pl?query=cobra&table=biswas-bengali). You are right IndianCommon krait = [[শাঁখামুঠি]] ''Bungarus coeruleus'' but that is completely unrelated to Cobras. My current understanding is that কেউটে= কালকূট = Indian Cobra= গোখরা = গোক্ষুর (গোরুর ক্ষুরের মত চিহ্ন ফণায় থাকে)। শঙ্খচূড় মানে শাঁখের মত চিহ্ন ফণায় থাকে যা King kobra। আমার অনুমান শাঁখের চিহ্ন অনেকটা না ফোটা পদ্মের মত তাই শঙ্খচূড় = পদ্ম গোখরা। বোড়া চন্দ্রবোড়া ইত্যাদি হল ভাইপার গোত্রের। I attended a talk by Mr Deepak Mitra in 1991 in Birla Industrial Museum in Calcutta and he showed us namy snakes and lizards.
