সংহুয়া নদী চীন ও উত্তর কোরিয়ার সীমান্ত সংলগ্ন 'হ্যাভেন' [[হ্রদ]] হতে উতপন্ন হয়ে উত্তর দিকে প্রবাহিত হয়েছে। নদীটি যাত্রাপথে বাইসান, হংশি ও ফ্যাংম্যান [[জলবিদ্যুৎ]] বাঁধ তৈরীর কারণে বাঁধাগ্রস্থ হয়েছে। ফ্যাংম্যান বাঁধের কারণে ৬২ কিলোমিটার (৩৯ মাইল) দৈর্ঘ্যের একটি হ্রদ তৈরী হয়েছে। ফ্যাংম্যানে সৃষ্ট জলাধার হতে সংহুয়া নদীর দ্বিতীয় শাখা বের হয়েছে। এই শাখাটি উত্তর দিকে চিলিন প্রদেশের মধ্য প্রবাহিত। নদীটি চিলিন প্রদেশে প্রবেশের পর উত্তর পশ্চিম দিকে প্রবাহিত হয়ে দা'ন শহরের নিকট নেন নদীর সাথে মিলিত হয়ে মূল সংহুয়া নদী হিসেবে প্রবাহিত হয়। এখান থেকে নদীটি পূর্বে প্রবাহিত হয়ে হারবিন শহর অতিক্রম করে। এই পথে দক্ষিণ দিক অশি নদী এবং উত্তর দিক থেকে হুলান নদী এসে সংহুয়া নদীর সাথে মিলিত হয়েছে।
