১৫৪৫ সালে চান্দেল রাজপুতদের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধের সময় [[কালিঞ্জর দুর্গ|কালিঞ্জর দুর্গে]] বারুদের বিস্ফোরণে শের শাহ সুরির মৃত্যু হয়। তাঁর মৃত্যুর পর তাঁর পুত্র জালাল খান [[ইসলাম শাহ সুরি]] নাম গ্রহণ করে সুরি সাম্রাজ্যের সিংহাসনে বসেন। [[সাসারাম|সাসারামে]] একটি কৃত্রিম হ্রদের মাঝখানে তাঁর ১২২ ফুট উঁচু নয়নাভিরাম [[শের শাহ সুরির সমাধি|সমাধিসৌধটি]] আজও বিদ্যমান।<ref>{{
