এসপের উপ-কথাগুলো আজো নৈতিক শিক্ষা প্রদান করে থাকে। বিভিন্ন বিনোদনধর্মী ব্যবস্থা বিশেষতঃ শিশুদের খেলাধূলায় ও [[ব্যঙ্গচিত্র|কার্টুনের]] বিষয়বস্তু হিসেবে এ উপ-কথাগুলো প্রয়োগ করা হয়।<ref name=bio>[http://www.biographybase.com/biography/Aesop.html www.biographybase.com - Aesop]</ref> এসপ অত্যন্ত [[প্রতিভা|প্রতিভাবাপন্ন ব্যক্তি]] হিসেবে তাঁর এ সকল উপকথাগুলোকে উপস্থাপন করেছেন। এগুলোর মাধ্যমে তিনি অনেকগুলো স্মরণীয় উদাহরণের স্বাক্ষর রেখেছেন যাতে তাঁর নাম স্থান, কাল, পাত্রভেদে স্বর্ণালী অক্ষরে লিপিবদ্ধ হয়ে রয়েছে। পরবর্তীকালের লেখকগণ তাঁর এ সকল উপ-কথাগুলো সংগ্রহ করে বিশ্বসাহিত্যকে সমৃদ্ধ করে রেখে গেছেন যা নিঃসন্দেহে প্রশংসার দাবীদার। এ সকল উপকথাগুলোই [[পাশ্চাত্য সাহিত্য]] ও পল্লীসাহিত্যের অবিচ্ছেদ্য অঙ্গ হিসেবে বিবেচিত হয়ে আসছে যুগ যুগ ধরে।
