In all respects they clearly demonstratedthat cricket had gone ahead in Philadelphia sincelast an American team had visited England. The rules of cricket underwent some changesthis season. At its annual meeting in May, theM.C.C. adopted three new laws, which wereembodied in the rules as follows :— I. That the over in future shall consist offive balls instead of four. 2. That the bowler may change ends asoften as he pleases, but may not bowl two oversin succession. ^^ 3. That the captain of the batting side maydeclare the innings at an end in a one-daymatch, whenever he chooses to do so ; but onlyon the last day of a match arranged for morethan one day.
