বেদুঈন

বেদুইন বা বেদুঈন বা বেদুয়িন (ইংরেজি: Bedouin) আরবের একটি যাযাবর জাতি। সাধারণতঃ বেদুঈন লোকজন উত্তর আফ্রিকা এবং মধ্যপ্রাচ্যের বিভিন্ন এলাকায় বসবাস করেন। নিজেদেরকে তারা তাবুর লোক হিসেবে পরিচিতি ঘটান। সম্ভাব্য কারণ হতে পারে যে, তারা এক স্থান থেকে অন্যত্র স্থানান্তরে অভ্যস্ত ও স্বাচ্ছন্দ্যবোধ করেন। তার মানে - এ জাতিগোষ্ঠী বাড়ীতে বসবাস না করে সর্বত্র ঘুরে বেড়ান ও তাবুর নিচে বাস করেন। বেদুঈনরা সর্বদাই মরুভূমির জাহাজ হিসেবে খ্যাত উটে চড়ে বেড়ান এবং ভেড়া, ছাগল, গবাদিপশু লালন-পালন করেন ও বিক্রয় করেন। বর্তমানে অনেক বেদুঈন জনগোষ্ঠী যাযাবর জীবন ছেড়ে দিচ্ছেন এবং শহরাঞ্চলে অবস্থান করছেন। কিন্তু অধিকাংশই বেদুঈন হিসেবে তাদের পরিচিতিকে ভুলে যাননি এবং তারা উত্তরাধিকারী হিসেবে গর্বিত।

১৯৩৫ সালে জন্মগ্রহণকারী জর্দান বংশোদ্ভূত ইংরেজ অভিনেতা নাদিম সয়ালহা তাঁর প্রকৃত জন্ম তারিখ জানতে না পেরে গর্বিত কেননা তিনি যাযাবর বেদুঈন পরিবারে জন্মেছেন।

উৎপত্তি

বেদুঈন শব্দের উৎপত্তি ঘটেছে আরবীতে প্রচলিত চলিত উপভাষা বদয়ি (بدوي) থেকে। বদয়ি এসেছে বাদিয়া (بَادِية) থেকে। সুতরাং এর ভাবগত অর্থ দাঁড়ায় যারা বাদিয়া বা মরুভূমিতে অবস্থান করছে।

ইতিহাস

ঊনবিংশ শতকের শেষদিকে অনেক বেদুঈন স্থানান্তরিত হয়ে অর্ধ-যাযাবর জীবনযাপন করতে শুরু করে। ১৯৫০ ও ১৯৬০-এর দশকে ব্যাপকসংখ্যক বেদুঈন জনগোষ্ঠীর জনসংখ্যাজনিত কারণে এশিয়ার মধ্যপ্রাতীচ্যে তাদের সনাতন ধারা ও যাযাবর জীবন পরিত্যাজ্য করে শহরগুলোতে বসবাস করতে শুরু করে। ১৯৫৮ থেকে ১৯৬১ সাল পর্যন্ত অনাবৃষ্টি, শুষ্কতার দরুণ সিরিয়ায় ইচ্ছার বিরুদ্ধে তারা যোগ্যতাসম্পন্ন চাকুরীতে যোগদান করে।
